Our Curriculum

At Wildwood, our curriculum is meticulously created to intertwine the beauty of outdoor and nature-based learning activities with the foundational stages of early childhood education. Recognising the immense benefits that the natural environment has on physical health and overall well-being, our curriculum is rich in activities that promote environmental awareness.

From exploring the local flora and fauna to engaging in hands-on gardening projects, children are encouraged to develop a deep connection with the world around them. Furthermore, we place a strong emphasis on the development of social skills such as cooperation, and empathy. Our aim is to foster a supportive and inclusive community where every child feels valued and understood, laying the groundwork for positive social interactions that extend beyond our Preschool.

Communication with parents and guardians is a cornerstone of our approach, ensuring that families are regularly updated on their child's progress, challenges, and achievements. We believe in building a partnership with parents to support the holistic development of each child. Additionally, our commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment is unwavering. We understand the importance of respecting the diversity of children's backgrounds and experiences, and our Preschool is designed to be accessible and enriching for all.

By choosing Wildwood, parents can trust that their children are not only receiving a high-quality early education but are also being cared for in an environment that values their individuality and promotes their overall growth and well-being.

Rachael and Laurence Waite

The journey into creating Wildwood began from a deep-rooted passion for early years education, combined with our personal evolution into becoming parents. Rachael has spent many years training and working as an Early Years Teacher and a Forest School Leader, and is deeply committed to the development and well-being of young children.

However, it was the transformative experience of becoming a parents, that truly ignited our drive to create a Preschool and Forest School environment that reflects the importance of early childhood development.  This profound personal change sharpened our focus and fuelled our determination to ensure that every child has access to the highest quality of care during their crucial early years.

The vision for Wildwood was born out of a desire to create a nurturing, engaging, and safe environment for children aged 3-5 years. Recognising the significant impact of early years education on a child's development, we were motivated to offer something beyond traditional childcare.

The concept of combining the foundational principles of early years education with the enriching experiences offered by a forest school seemed like the perfect approach.

It's not just about providing care; it's about fostering a love for learning, encouraging curiosity, and supporting each child's individual growth in a setting that feels like a second home.

This is the heart of why we created Wildwood.

Outstanding Quality

We believe in the importance of personalised attention and care. To achieve this, we maintain a high staff-to-child ratio, significantly above the statutory requirements. This ensures that each child receives the support and guidance they need to thrive. Furthermore, our team is fully trained in paediatric first aid, guaranteeing that your child’s safety and well-being are always our top priority.

Another cornerstone of our philosophy is the key person system we offer. Each child is paired with a dedicated staff member, providing consistent support and fostering development that is tailored to their individual needs and interests. This approach not only enhances the learning experience but also builds strong, positive relationships between our staff and the children in our care.

We are committed to creating a nurturing, supportive, and safe environment where your child can grow, learn, and explore.

Our Values

At the heart of our ethos is a commitment to providing all children with access to forest school and outdoor learning. These enriching experiences foster a deep connection with nature, encouraging children to explore, learn, and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. By embracing the great  outdoors, we promote holistic development, creativity, and resilience, equipping our children with essential life skills while fostering a strong sense of community amongst our children, parents and staff.
